We’re famous! As a follow up to the coverage of the stadium study, two of our co-founders were invited to meet with Mayor Crombie and columnist Ali Reza from the Mississauga News at City Hall. The piece’s headline reads “Grassroots Soccer Group Wins Support For Mississauga Stadium - Sauga City Collective Convinces Mayor to Pursue Multi-Use Stadium for Canadian Premier League.” The article appeared both online and in print. A huge accomplishment in itself!

The piece touches on the humble beginnings of our group, how we’ve used social media as a method to interact with city officials and the Mayor’s thoughts on soccer’s growth and potential in Mississauga. It also highlights the city’s intention of having a facility in time for the 2026 World Cup in which Canada will be one of 3 hosts. Obviously whatever stadium does get built in Mississauga will not be able to function as a host site for World Cup games, but it could be used for peripheral events such as viewing parties and for team training. We love that our ambition and hard work is being rewarded and matched by the city’s own ambition and willingness to hear us out.

We even had the opportunity to give the mayor a scarf of her own and got a photo-op!
